White Trash Front Yard Contest!
Let me start at the beginning.....
Early yesterday morning, my 70 year old mother had eye surgery. She was so uncomfortable after the procedure that she was twitching, skaking, and crying. So I showed my ass a little bit and convinced those in charge that it would be best for all concerned (especially them) if my mother was given a shot for her pain.
I finally got Mom home, tucked her into her recliner and started popping Percocets into her mouth. She settled down, and slept comfortably. At least I hope she slept comfortably - I stopped asking her if she was okay every 10 minutes because I figured that if I kept it up, she might decide to kill me.
Then my 18 year old brought home a puppy that he had bought his girlfriend for Christmas. I'm not even going to go into my moral objection to giving living creatures as gifts. Suffice it to say that my child made a decision of questionable morality (in my eyes) and then brought the product of said decision into a house already filled with 2 and 4 legged family members. (Our family motto seems to be, "Anything nobody wants can come and live with us!") Pandemonium ensued.
Next, my 14 year old somehow managed to literally explode the toilet in his brother's bathroom. Momentarily setting aside the question of why the hell he wasn't using his own bathroom, let me just say that the toilet sounded like a cherry bomb going off. It was not a cherry bomb - I took all those away last summer - but some sort of freakish air pocket in the sewage lines. That's right - sewage. I must really be a bad mother. Poor kid came running, "Mama! Help!" The first words out of my mouth were, "For the love of all that's holy - don't touch me!" We worked for hours cleaning up the mess and trying to figure out how to fix the damn toilet. We didn't call the plumber because we made a collective, only briefly spoken, decision - we did not want to explain to a stranger that our house was spawning exploding toilets.
Before I go on I need to point out that I live in a tres tres upscale neighborhood. Houses in this area go from half a million to a million. Dollars, not copeks. This is an important element in explaining the absurdity that followed.
As this latest adventure was winding down, there was a knock at the door. It was a policeman. He had ventured across the threshold of normalcy into the lunatic asylum I call home to inform me that one of my neighbors had made a complaint about my family's "junk cars." I am not making this up: The cars in question are ones that we DRIVE. Not cars up on blocks with transmissions hanging from trees. Cars that we DRIVE. Older cars. Maybe rust spots in places, but fully tagged, insured and DRIVEN.
So, considering the end of the day, and how absolutely pissed off I am that some pretentious idiot living with all flash and no cash thinks our vehicles are unacceptable....I'm taking suggestions for some seriously tacky things I can do in my front yard. I've already considered moving my clothesline out there, but I'm really looking for seriously creative ideas.
Come on....have some holiday spirit and enter the "White Trash Front Yard Contest!"
Send me an email with your idea.

Special Offer!!!
I'm about to reveal a simple yet effective way to learn to read tarot cards quickly, easily, and visually.
Simply put, you'll be able to use these little known techniques to give tarot readings to friends, family members, or even to strangers. In fact, once you figure this out, you'll be able to effortlessly reveal secrets of the past, present, and future.
What I'm talking about is tapping into mysterious divination powers locked away inside the tarot cards, waiting to be used for your own benefit, and if you so choose, the benefit of those around you.
But before I get into that - there's been so much 'mis-information' on Tarot cards and how to read them, I figure I'd better clear things up first:
Myth #1 - Only professional psychics are able to read Tarot cards, right? Wrong! Some people mistakenly believe that they have to see a "pro" psychic to get a costly tarot reading for advice. The truth is, my step by step system teaching how to read tarot is so effortless, anyone will be able to do a reading the same day as they go through the system.
Myth #2 - It takes a long time to learn to read Tarot cards. That's definately not the case. First off, there are many people that find they have a natural ability to read Tarot cards. The real shocking truth you'll find out is that thousands of people just like you can learn to read Tarot cards quickly if they were just given an easy step by step system to learn from. Not only this, but you'll be able to watch along the way with our amazing videos that you get. Talk about easy!
Myth #3 - This can't be that easy to do. If it were, then everyone would be able to read tarot cards. Not so. There are two very important things to remember here. 1.) Hardly anyone even knows that there are quick and effective ways to learn how to read Tarot cards just like a pro. In addition, the people that DO know how to read them already are in no hurry to show anyone...that's not so surprising is it? 2.) Until now, there hasn't been an easy step-by-step guide to help someone through the process of learning to read tarot cards using video. |
Okay now with that out of the way let's quickly talk about what you can learn:
- The best card layouts to use when starting out, and what to use when you progress. (I'll hand you over my best layouts on a silver platter.)
- How to know whether a certain card should be seen as positive or negative!
- How to determine exactly if a Tarot card reading is revealing opportunities, or serving as a warning.
- How to tap into the aspects of the Tarot card layout that show you what is waiting for you in your future.
- What you need to do prior to any reading to be in the proper frame of mind.
- The 2 different ways that you can associate the cards to each other.
- The types of kind of card combination that you can make. You need to know what they are because the cards have different interpretations based on which card they are paired with.
- The secret to knowing if your Tarot card reading is right . This one alone can save you from the frustration of having a reading that doesn't make sense!
- and much, much more...

Beginners' Tips On Tarot Readings
Often, beginners who are new to tarot find themselves overwhelmed by the thought of having to memorize the various meanings of 78 cards. It's important not to forget that there is more to reading the tarot than merely memorizing symbols and meanings. Oftentimes, the meanings of the cards will vary with their position in the spread. In my opinion, it's better to hone your intuition than to only concentrate on memorization. Sure, one can simply memorize all the card meanings, but usually this type of rote learning makes a reader who is as dry as a stack of multiplication flashcards.
Before anybody decides to hit me over the head with a bottle, let me say that I have spent years collecting and reading various reference books dealing with tarot symbolism. Even after 16 years of doing readings, I still sometimes stop to quickly research a particular nuance during a reading.
Tarot cards are a tool that gives us choices - They do not predict our fate, but show the most likely outcome of any proposed action. They're a perfect tool for making informed choices and adding to the decision making process. Yes, tarot is an amazing source of information....but how that information is utilized is ultimately up to us.

The Importance of Asking Good Questions during a Tarot Reading
Tarot cards are one of the most popular ways that psychics tell the future. As we all know, every tarot reading begins with a question. Your question will eventually determine whether the tarot cards will really give you the answer that you want or not. That is why there is a need to ask a very clear, relevant question even at the start of the session.
There are some guidelines that you need to know about the questions to be asked when your fortune is being told using these cards. By asking these questions, you will be sure that you will get the answer that you are really waiting for during a tarot reading.
First, you might want to ask a question which aims to know how something has evolved or came into being. This is quite a great question to ask once you are quite confused about a particular situation and you want to know the possible outcome that may spring from it. Asking this type of question during a tarot reading will provide you a clear background on the actions to take regarding your dilemma and to find out where the difficulties will eventually take place.
Another effective question to ask during a tarot reading is about what to do in a certain situation. By doing this, you are simply asking the tarot to give you some advice on a particular concern that you have at the moment. With this question, the tarot cards will give you a relevant means of action that you should do in order to overcome the dilemma.
Asking about the personalities or characteristics of some people is also an effective tarot question. If you have a misunderstanding with a friend or a loved one and you really want to know why has he or she been acting as such, you can get more than enough responses during a tarot reading. You can also ask about the existing background of the problem so as you will be able to know the next action to consider.
There are other questions that people tend to ask during a tarot reading. Many people think that these are good questions, but actually they are not. Tarot cards have a tendency to give such vague responses once that certain questions have been asked. A simple yes or no question is not really good during a tarot reading. Questions like, “Will I be able to get the job,” or “Will we break up soon” seem quite good, but these can elicit vague responses from the cards. Another vague question would be asking the cards about a particular course of action that you have to take. Asking the tarot cards questions like “Should I leave him or not,” or “Will I go to Spain or to France?” are definitely going to give you vague responses. Tarot cards focus on the existing situation of someone’s life, and it eventually will give you measures on how to get through your problems, but it will not give you clear responses for closed questions.
Once that you have followed these guidelines, you will surely get the responses that you want from the age-old dilemma that you want to solve.
A psychic reading makes a great Christmas gift!

a ChildProtectionReform groups post
I've been part of this movement since before there really was a movement. I've heard and seen it all.
My take? We should focus on our states and our local areas. Granted, there is a national problem and federal laws and funding to deal with. Believe me, I get that. But it's only one piece of the puzzle.
I believe it is extremely important to work on changing attitudes of the general public at the state and local level. I believe it is extremely important to work on those elected officials and non-profit managers who control our state and local funding streams. Here in Georgia, even though we have a state government directed system (as opposed to say, North Carolina which has a county directed system) DFACS (CPS) gets various funding and other support from local governments. Even more is given by local charities. THIS IS WHERE WE NEED TO POINT OUR EFFORT, in my opinion.
If significant numbers of us focus our efforts this way, our work will lead to changes all over the country. Changes are already happening in Georgia. I'd love to see changes happen everywhere.
So, how exactly do we do this? We write timely letters to the editor, we respond to local news stories touching on CPS, we write to our local lawmakers, we offer concrete help to victim families who are close to us geographically.
Of course there will be people who won't do any of these things. And there are going to be people who will. For example, if a group member posts a sample letter to the editor, the majority of members won't bother to personalize and send it. But some will.
Let's at least expect "some."

Vindication???
Hmmm....
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 14, 2008
AFAC apparently claims to be a "for profit" organization offering "consulting" and "licensing of copyrighted intellectual property".
AFRA, a non profit ASSOCIATION of family rights advocates, interested individuals, and CPS victims, clearly has NEVER, and does NOT desire or intend to "compete" with AFAC.
Both AFRA member advocacy groups and non-member advocacy groups are perfectly free to operate on their own.
AFRA does NOT impose in any way on any family rights advocate, beyond the suspension of their AFRA membership if they commit egregious or unprofessional acts that injure clients or behavior that reflects poorly on AFRA. Even such suspended members are NOT "pursued", harassed, or defamed, or made victim of a character assassination.
If independent advocates WANT help from AFRA, we will provide what we can and only what we are asked to provide.
Stated as clearly and as succinctly as possible, AFRA, being an ASSOCIATION of family advocates, does NOT, and will never "compete" with any "family advocate" organization or individual, AFRA member or not, in any way, shape, or form.

A number of times this season I have been bitten by large numbers of fire ants, which I'm allergic to. As happened once before this has caused scalded skin syndrome (also known as Ritter's disease). The previous time, at age 3, every bit of my skin just came off. This was in the early 70's when toxic reactions like this were not completely understood. I almost died while various doctors tried to figure out what was wrong with me. Luckily my mother was only briefly suspected of burning me herself, so we didn't have to go through accusations and separation.
I'm not totally out of commission but have low grade fever and really unpleasant body aches, not to mention pain from the burns. Nothing life threatening at all this time around. The reason I'm writing about this in such detail is because of the misdiagnosis/child abuse accusation angle.
I'd like everyone who is or would like to be involved in Family Advocacy to know that this is a condition most common in children pre-school age or younger. (But since I already had it, I win again.) Scalded skin syndrome is often mistaken for child abuse, as there are actual burns on the body and nobody believes at first it had anything to do with insect bites - basically you burn from the inside out.
It's not uncommon for the parent to be unable to pinpoint the onset...to use myself as an example: I was bitten almost constantly over a period of time, scratched and cussed, and didn't suspect anything worse until I started to see the burns. It's important to lead the parent gently backwards to pinpoint the exposure - this is important in the case of an accusation. Parents need to insist that their child be tested, and advocates and others can be a great source of support to the whole family.

Responses to my 4/24 letter to the editor
http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/042408/let_196159.shtml
The images we have all seen of the families involved in the Texas polygamy case are disturbing. It doesn't matter where one's opinion lies -- the whole situation is simply disturbing.
I would not agree to live in a plural marriage, no matter how often my husband jokes about finding another wife. But I do believe that people should be able to choose their lifestyles. I am strongly in favor of changing our marriage laws to provide gays and lesbians the chance to marry. In my mind, polygamy is not all that different as long as the marriage partners are consenting adults.
Unfortunately, at issue in the Texas case is not only freedom of association, but accusations that children are forced into arranged marriages. It is interesting to note that Child Protective Services in Texas decided that accusations of teen girls being forced to marry justified the detention of more than 400 children, some of them infants . According to CPS' own information, 90 percent of the children detained were in no imminent danger. It is for this reason that I'm crying "foul."
Over the past decade, I have seen some extraordinary silliness in CPS cases, usually perpetrated on families who are ill-equipped to fight back. If you stand by and say nothing as multiple families are torn apart, then you may find yourself on the receiving end of the same bitter medicine with no one to speak out for you.
Dorothy Kernaghan-Baez, Augusta
At this point, no abuse has been proven in court. Child Protective Services (CPS) are using the "risk of harm" argument as justification for detaining all of the children.
Also, I disagree with your basic premise that all children are sexually abused just because a sibling is.
If you remove the victim and leave the others in the home, then there is a new victim. (The caps are for emphasis, not shouting).
As I stated above I disagree with your basic premise.
The Texas authorities have acted in the best interest of the children and have not only legally, but rightfully, removed any potential victim.
Actually, it is not lawful to remove a "potential" victim. Federal law requires that "reasonable efforts" (Congress's words, not mine) be made before detaining a child away from his or her home. Reasonable efforts must also be made to make it possible for a detained child to be released.
The reason the "parents" are lying is because they know and understand that they have broken the laws regarding overt sexual behavior towards a child.
Where have the parents lied?
Those "men" are nothing more than perverted pedophiles who, if living in any other city or town, would have been arrested and prosecuted. The men who fathered these children have left the area in order to circumvent the law. Arizona and Colorado would do well by raiding those FLDS compounds.
Then how do you explain the presence of all those men still at the ranch?
Also, are you saying that anyone who has sexual relations with a girl under the age of 18 is a pedophile? Young people have sex all the time, often VERY casually. It seems to me like you're taking a single kumquat and trying to split it in half and then call it an apple and an orange.
How would you like it if your 13 year old was impregnated by your pastor because he believed he is "spiritually authorized by God?" Some of these children are now products of incest, which is also against the law.l Imagine the medical problems they will develop in the future.
I don't think my just turned fourteen year old would sit still long enough for anybody to impregnate him.
Seriously, we are talking about arranged marriages as part of an alternative lifestyle. Sure, I'd take issue about ANYBODY being forced into any marriage. But as far as I understand the situation in Texas, we don't know for sure that this is the case.
Time will tell.
